Overview
Search & Rescue (“we”, “us”) provides a Shopify app that lets boutique merchants connect their Shopify store to the Search & Rescue marketplace. This policy explains what information the Shopify app processes when a merchant installs and uses it.
The separate Search & Rescue customer mobile app may have additional notices for shoppers. This document focuses on the merchant Shopify app.
Information we process
Depending on how merchants use the app, we may process:
- Shop identifiers: Shopify shop domain, shop ID, and installation status
- Catalog data: products, variants, images, prices, SKUs, inventory levels, and related metadata needed to list inventory on Search & Rescue
- Merchant profile data merchants enter in onboarding: store display name, support email and phone, pickup address and hours, delivery preferences
- Technical logs: app errors, sync run metadata, and webhook delivery diagnostics
- Authentication data: Shopify OAuth tokens stored securely on our servers (never in the customer mobile app)
- Minimal order metadata: product variants, quantities, Search & Rescue order reference, order tags, and the Shopify order identifier returned after an order is created
The Shopify integration does not request, send, or store a shopper’s name, mailing address, email address, phone number, or payment card number. Search & Rescue handles the customer information needed for checkout and delivery in its separate customer service.
How we use information
- Authenticate the merchant’s Shopify store
- Sync catalog and inventory into Search & Rescue
- Create and reconcile the merchant’s Shopify order using only the minimal order metadata described above
- Power merchant onboarding and marketplace approval status
- Send order alerts and coordinate boutique or courier pickup
- Operate, secure, and troubleshoot the app
- Comply with law and respond to Shopify compliance webhooks (data request / erasure)
Legal bases / Shopify requirements
We process merchant and shop data as needed to provide the app a merchant requests, to secure our systems, and to meet Shopify App Store and privacy-law compliance obligations (including responding to customers/data_request, customers/redact, and shop/redact webhooks).
Sharing
We may share data with:
- Infrastructure providers that host the app and database under contractual safeguards
- Shopify, as required to operate an embedded app and webhooks
- Communications and delivery providers used to send merchant order alerts and coordinate courier pickup
- Professional advisors or authorities when required by law
We do not sell merchant or shopper information.
Retention
We retain installation, catalog sync, and onboarding data while the app remains installed and as needed for marketplace operations. Local app data is deleted when the app is uninstalled and again when Shopify sends a shop/redact request. Shopify order identifiers are de-identified no later than 180 days after order creation and sooner when Shopify sends a matching customers/redact request. Limited records may be retained longer only when required by law or a documented legal hold.
Security
We use safeguards appropriate to an OAuth-connected Shopify app. Our managed hosting and database providers encrypt stored data, all external traffic uses HTTPS/TLS, secrets are restricted to server-side services, and calls between the Shopify app and Search & Rescue use signatures or a server-only shared secret.
Merchant rights and choices
- Uninstall the app from Shopify Admin to revoke access
- Contact us at admin@searchrescueapp.com to request access, correction, or deletion of merchant account information we control
- Use Shopify Admin tools for customer data requests that Shopify forwards to apps via compliance webhooks
Children
The Shopify app is intended for business merchants, not for children under 13 (or the age required in your jurisdiction).
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date above will change when we do. Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy where permitted by law.
